VPN (Virtual Private Network) Setup

The SCS VPN will allow you to join the SCS network even when you are working off campus. This system works when you use a VPN client (located on your machine, off campus) to connect to the SCS VPN server (located in Dirac). After you establish a connection, your network communication is securely routed through the SCS VPN sever. In the current configuration, you will appear to be part of the SCS network only to other SCS machines. When connecting to the rest of campus or other sites, you will retain the IP address of the true network you are connecting from. There are currently plans to resolve this, after which all traffic will be routable through the SCS network. This means that you will have access to SCS computing resources as if you were physically located within the Dirac Building.

  • VPN helper applications
    • Shimo -- a user interface for the Cisco VPN-client. Uses Apple's keychain-application to seemlessly integrate the Cisco VPN-client. Requires the Mac OS X VPN client.
