Answer:

The VPN allows a SCS computing account holder to establish a secure (encrypted) connection to the internal SCS network from virtually any location with public Internet access. This facilitates remote access to SCS resources, and substantially minimizes the possibility that a third party could intercept sensitive information.

In short, connection to the SCS VPN should provide you with the same access to SCS computing resources you would have as if you were physically located within the Dirac Building.
