Eudora for the Mac (OS X)

Overview: Eudora for Mac OS X requires at least version 6.0 to work properly with CSIT email server authentication. Setup is straightforward and the only prerequisite is that you must use the system keychain. Eudora supports both POP and IMAP email protocols. Configurations --

New Installation:

• Go to the FSU User Services website, download Eudora for Mac OS X and install the software.
• To Open Eudora, you must be on the Finder screen (your desktop).
• Click on Go. Select Applications. Double-click on the Eudora 6.0 icon.

When you first bring up Eudora 6.0 for Mac X, you will be prompted: Do you want to use the system keychain? Click on yes.

The next prompt requests Would you like to import settings and mail from another mail application? Answer appropriately for your situation. You will next be presented a screen similar to the one shown below.

Getting Started

• In the Username: field, type in your CSIT username. For example, if your email address is seminole@csit.fsu.edu, then your username is seminole.
• In the Mail Host: field, enter email.csit.fsu.edu.
• In the Real Name: field, enter your name how you would like it to be seen by recipients of messages from this account.
• In the SMTP Server field: Enter smtp.csit.fsu.edu.
• Click on: Checking Mail:

• The Username field should be automatically filled in from the previous screen. If not, then in the Username field, type in your CSIT username. For example, if your email address is seminole@csit.fsu.edu, then your username is seminole.

• The Mailhost field should be automatically filled in from the previous screen.
• If not, in the Mail Host field, enter: email.csit.fsu.edu.
• In the Mail Protocol field, you may select either POP or IMAP. See POP vs. IMAP for a discussion of the features of both protocols and select the one that is most appropriate for you.
• In the Location Prefix field, type INBOX. *In the Save Password field, you may check this box if you don’t want to be prompted for your password.
• The Connection section offers three choices which are dependent upon your specific requirements. Choose the appropriate features. If you are not satisfied, you may return and change your settings.
  • The Download Options: may be set to your specific requirements.
  • Click on -- Sending Mail:

• In the field, type in csit.fsu.edu.
• In the SMTP Server: field, make sure it is set to smtp.csit.fsu.edu.
• Make sure that the Allow authorization field is checked.
• Scroll down the left-hand menu and Click on --Miscellaneous

• Verify that “Use system keychain to store passwords” box is checked.
• Scroll down the left-hand menu and Click on –SSL:

• In the SSL for POP: field, select Required Alternate Port.
• In the SSL for SMTP: field, select Required.
• In the SSL for IMAP: field, select Required Alternate Port.
• In both Standard Port SSL Negotiation and Alternate Port SSL Negotiation, select TLS 1.0.
• Click on OK button to exit setup.

NOTE: To make changes to your options, from the menu bar, click on ‘Eudora’, select ‘Preferences’ and the ‘Settings’ box opens.

• Check your mail.
• Send a test message

Check your mail to verify settings are correct. If you receive an error message, please review your settings and try again. If you are unable to send or receive mail, enter a Remedy ticket and a member of the TSG will contact you as soon as possible.

Additional Information:

There is valuable information regarding upgrading your Eudora in the Eudora 6.0 folder entitled INSTALLING README.rtf file. If you will be adding your CSIT account to an existing Eudora 6.0 setup, you will need to do so through the Personalities options. Use the directions above for guidelines.

Other Useful Information:

• When prompted to Confirm Access to Keychain, click on Always Allow.
• From Finder, click on Go then Utilities to locate Key Chain Access.
