Faculty General Committee

Committee Role and Responsibilities

  • The Faculty General Committee is the principal faculty committee to collaborate with the director in administering SCS, implementing SCS policy and proposing general SCS policy. It consists of five tenured SCS faculty members: one member appointed by the director and four members elected by the tenure-track SCS faculty. The member appointed by the director serves a one-year renewable term. The elected members serve two-year staggered terms with two members elected each year.
  • The committee collaborates with the director in:
    • determining annual assignments of responsibility in accordance with the SCS Guidelines;
    • determining standing committee appointments;
    • determining budgetary priorities;
    • determining recruiting priorities;
    • determining space and non-monetary resource allocation.
  • The committee also performs annual peer evaluations of the teaching, research, and service of the tenure-track SCS faculty using procedures approved by a two-thirds majority of the tenure-track SCS faculty.
