Please read the following before attempting to Add a TAXON to MorphBank.
If you are reading this it's because you've attempted to find a Taxon in the Taxonomic Table and were unsuccessful. You will need to Add Each taxonomic level that is missing, one at a time. You can always email the MorphBank administration (mbadmin

Unit indicator 1: may only contain an "X" to indicate a hybrid at the Genus level.
Unit Name 1: may be a Sub-order, Infra-order, Super-family, Family, Sub-family, Tribe, Sub-tribe or Genus.
Depending on the Taxon level entered in Unit Name 1, the other fields may or may not be used.
Unit indicator 2: may only contain an "x" to indicate a hybrid
Unit Name 2: Sub-genus or species
Unit indicator 3: var., ssp., x and f.
Unit Name 3: species or sub-species
Unit indicator 4: var., f.
Unit Name 4: variety, form
Examples:
Kingdom Plantae: You wish to add: Gaura villosa ssp. parksii which has [Genus][species][rank indicator][sub-species]. You see that Gaura is not in the Taxonomic table. Therefore, you will need to add the Genus and submit the form, add the species and submit the form, add the subspecies and submit the form. Wait each time while the system updates the Tables.
Unit Name 1: Gaura
Rank Identification* [choose "Genus"] and click on Submit. NEXT,
*Unit Name 1:* Gaura
Unit Name 2: villosa
Rank Identification* [choose "species"] and click on Submit. NEXT,
Unit Name 1: Gaura
Unit Name 2: villosa
Unit indicator 3: ssp.
Unit Name 3: parksii
Rank Identification* [choose "Sub-species"] and click on Submit. DONE.
- You can now select this Taxonomic Name for a given specimen in MorphBank.
Kingdom Animalia
Agathymus alliae paiute [Genus][species][sub-species], therefore:
Unit Name 1: Agathymus
Rank Identification* [choose "Genus"] and click on Submit. NEXT,
Unit Name 1: Agathymus
Unit Name 2: alliae
Rank Identification* [choose "species"] and click on Submit. NEXT,
Unit Name 1: Agathymus
Unit Name 2: alliae
Unit indicator 3:
Unit Name 3: paiute
Rank Identification* [choose "Sub-species"] and click on Submit. DONE.
- Complex Example: You have found the Order you are interested in but not the Sub-order or any of the levels below. You will need to add them all, one-at-a-time, down to the Taxonomic level you desire to select for the specimen in question.
Unit Name 1: [Sub-order]
Rank Identification* [choose "Sub-order"] and click on Submit.
- When the form reloads you will be at the Sub-order level you submitted and can add the next Taxonomic Level below the Sub-order. For example:
Unit Name 1: [Family]
Rank Identification* [choose "Family"] and click on Submit.
- Now when the form reloads you are at the level of Family and can enter any further Taxonomic Levels needed. For example:
Unit Name 1: [Genus]
Rank Identification* [choose "Genus"] and click on Submit.
- From the Level of Genus downward, you will always enter the Genus in Unit Name 1 and then continue adding each level below Genus, one-at-a-time. You will continue this process until you have added each Taxonomic Level needed to add the Taxonomic Name of interest.
Unit Name 1: [Genus]
Unit Name 2: [Sub-Genus]
Rank Identification* [choose "Sub-genus"] and click on Submit.
Unit Name 1: [Genus]
Unit Name 2: [Sub-Genus]
Unit Name 3: [species]
Rank Identification* [choose "species"] and click on Submit.
Unit Name 1: [Genus]
Unit Name 2: [Sub-Genus]
Unit Name 3: [species]
Unit indicator 4: [var.]
Unit Name 4: [variety]
Rank Identification* [choose "Variety"] and click on Submit.
- If "Sub-genus" does not apply then your forms would look as follows:
Unit Name 1: [Genus]
Unit Name 2: [species]
Rank Identification* [choose "species"] and click on Submit.
Unit Name 1: [Genus]
Unit Name 2: [species]
Unit indicator 3: [var.]
Unit Name 3: [variety]
Rank Identification* [choose "variety"] and click on Submit.
Vernacular (Common Name): [optional]
