The Florida Grid

Welcome to the Florida Grid twiki pages. The FlGrid twiki is intended to give members a place to document activities related to the development of a multi-institutional and multidisciplinary Florida Grid.

The first FL grid meeting was held via phone conference on April 29, 2008. The objectives of this first meeting was for participants to get to know other members of Florida academic committee interested in the formation and development of a grid organization to serve research requirements in the state of Florida and to consider ways to catalyze this effort. Following general introductions and discussions, the group decided to take a two pronged approach to stimulating use of shared distributed resources over the FLR.

The first prong will use scheduling tools already in use at FSU, UF, and Miami to run a single project over two or three institutions. Jim Wilgenbusch volunteered a candidate project in Molecular Dynamics. Jim will work with this researcher to develop a brief requirements description so that UF and Miami will be able to asses whether they will be able to support this project.

The second prong will establish or strengthen a Florida Virtual Organization under the Open Science Grid. Establishing a Florida VO would take care of authentication issues and is a necessary step toward giving Florida researchers access to a collection of diverse resources.
