Waterfall was purchased with money from a DURIP (Defense University Research Instrumentation Program) grant from the ARO (Army Research Office) for a project entitled "Grid Computing for Collaborative Large Scale Computing". This grant was a collaborative effort with the University of Central Florida (UCF) and George Washington University (GWU), the former getting a 32-node cluster and the latter getting a 16-node cluster identical to the one at FSU. Due to a recent reorganization, however, the GWU cluster is being moved to UCF. The three clusters will be linked together to form a computational grid. The primary purposes of this grid are to provide a platform for running network modeling and simulation software and for developing and testing network intrusion detection frameworks. In addition, the FSU cluster will serve as a mid-level general purpose machine in the CSIT network and is available to the the general FSU research community.
