Connection to SCS Computing Resources

An SCS account is required to connect to most of the computing resources available at SCS (see RequestAccount for more information). The bioinformatics server called mendel is one exception, however. Currently, accounts on Mendel are standalone and you will need to contact Steve Thompson to request an account on this system.

If you are using a machine connected to the SCS network, you can directly connect to most of the SCS compute resources. If you are not connected to the SCS network (those who do not have an IP address that matches 144.174.*.*) then you must connect to SCS compute resources through the SCS gateway called pamd.scs.fsu.edu or the SCS VPN (see VpnSetup).

To connect to pamd type:

ssh pamd.scs.fsu.edu

If you are connected to the SCS network or the SCS Virtual Private Network (see VpnSetup) you can connect directly to the compute resource without going through pamd.scs.fsu.edu.

Log in access to owner-based systems is restricted to the owners of the resource and the members of their group.

Use the qlogin command to connect to our application servers?. The qlogin command is available on SCS desktops (e.g., hostname = dskscs***.scs.fsu.edu) or from pamd.scs.fsu.edu.

pamd% qlogin -l tecplot
